Abstract

The Mexican Network of Institutional Repositories (REMERI, http://www.remeri.org.mx) is a federated network of digital repositories of mexican institutions of higher education and research, founded in 2012 by six universities. REMERI in now supported by the University Corporation for Internet Development in Mexico (CUDI for its acronym in Spanish) and it is also the national network representing Mexico in the Federated Network of Institutional Repositories of Scientific Publications (LA-Referencia, http://www.lareferencia.info).

The technology platform of REMERI consists of a web portal and harvester-aggregator named INDIXE, developed specifically for the project with XML technology (XQuery / XMLDB) using an open source platform (eXist / Tomcat), for harvesting, validation, standardization and integration of metadata records repositories, journals and digital collections of OA.

INDIXE includes the following services and tools: an OAI-PMH validator for metadata providers, a collection harvester, metadata normalization, metadata search and retrieval, an OAI-PMH data provider for the collection and a DRIVER compliant data provider for LA-Referencia.

Currently (May 2015) REMERI has four additional consulting services: including a Directory of Institutional Repositories (103 IR), Institutional Scientific Production Indicators (55K articles and 67K postgraduate theses), an INDIXE for Mexican Open Access Journals (350 magazine and 100K articles) and an INDIXE for Mexican Theses and Dissertations (236K resources). Additionally there is an INDIXE for Documentary Heritage in development.
