The library publishing landscape: how we define and situate ourselves
Last modified: 2017-04-21
Abstract
This talk will share the findings of a research study that explored the breadth and complexity of how academic libraries characterize their journal publishing programs. Guided by the notion that a binary distinction between the terms publishing and hosting is lacking in nuance, this study has attempted to map these terms to a broader continuum. Over the course of two years, the research team analysed library publishing websites, conducted in-depth interviews, and surveyed the North American library publishing community. The mixed methods model of engagement challenged the team to think beyond structures and services to embrace a broader understanding of the nature of publishing in libraries.
