Scholarly associations can play a key role in fostering the adoption of Open Access principles, because of the trust and prestige they enjoy among researchers. The Linguistic Society of America (LSA) is the world's largest academic association in the field of linguistics, with over 700 private and institutional members from countless countries. To support and vitalize the scientific discourse in the discipline, the LSA has launched eLanguage.net*, an e-journal aggregator and community platform for linguists from around the globe. One innovative feature of eLanguage.net is the concept of co-journals fully independent e-publications, maintained by teams of specialized researchers, which are centrally aggregated via ATOM and RSS feeds on the website. All co-journals are managed by their editors via PKP's Open Journal Systems (OJS) and the articles published in them are presented together with content from three special-purpose blogs containing news relevant to the discipline (book notices, institutional developments, opinion pieces).

This presentation will outline the integrated concept behind eLanguage.net, a concept that seeks to enable scholarly communication instead of merely moving the existing paradigm of scholarly publishing from paper to bits and bytes. We will give both a detailed technical account of the integration of OJS, Wordpress and custom PHP code into a single user-managed web site and explain the organizational and ontological basis that eLanguage rests upon.
